THE FOUNDRY GALLERY, 32 North Street, Lewes BN7 2PH

21st to 29th May 2011 - Open daily 10am to 5pm (closed 23rd)

This exhibition is all about working and creating with soft pastels, one of the most versatile, flexible and permanent of all art mediums.

The works on display demonstrate a very wide range of styles, techniques and genres by artists and students who each bring their personal approach to the use of this remarkable medium.

Together they represent living proof of the fantastic colour range of pastel, often mistakenly equated only with paler shades! But, more importantly, they affirm that this medium can do anything paint can do and a great deal that paint can’t!

You only have to explore it a little to unlock some of its many secrets and we invite anyone to try it for themselves on

We will show you how to use pastels and what they can do and we are sure you will be amused and amazed!

All ages and abilities are welcome to contribute to our communal celebration of this mysterious and marvellous medium. All materials supplied on site, and it will only cost you £1 for as long as a whole day!

Plus family workshops on both the Saturdays. Just come along.

Then, on May 26th from 7pm-11pm, THE ADVENTURISTS will create spontaneous music to which you can improvise in pastels, then they will improvise back inspired by your images to create an on-going musical/visual dialogue. Anything could happen!

£5 at the door.

THE ADVENTURISTS are Dan Clark, Sam Walker, Mike Simmonds and Buster Cottham. “Rolling textures, driving rhythms, soaring melody and filmic expanses are created by these four talented and charismatic players.”

Sam Walker will also be playing at the LAUNCH  May 20th -  4pm to 8pm

This is open to all so do come if you can. The bar will be open from 5pm. There’s plenty of room for everyone because
