The work exhibited here represents a small part of a series of images taken in February 2006, which document the site as it was after The Market Lane Garage had closed. It examines the traces left by the workers and the processes that took place in the building. Marks, scratches, paint splashes and textures are captured through a lens. Some have resonances of formal still life arrangements others of the energy of the action paintings of Jackson Pollack. These digital photographs have textural qualities, which suggest painted surfaces. They capture patterns and rhythms of light on grease and dust reflecting a still echo of the mechanised human labour that once inhabited the space.
